I Am the Walrus… is the first chapter of a trilogy on protest music, a project involving the creation of three choreographic works for Arearea Company. The intention is to revisit the phenomenon of the youth movement that, between the late 1960s and 1970s, brought about radical changes in customs — from music to cinema, fashion, social and interpersonal relations, and the dynamics between fathers and sons.
I Am the Walrus… explores the phenomenon of psychedelia in 1960s rock music and how it influenced and accompanied the lives of young people at the time.
The title is inspired by I Am the Walrus, a song written by Lennon during an acid trip, the result of a collage of psychedelic inspirations.
I Am the Walrus…
I Am the Walrus, we are the Elementary Penguins singing Hare Krishna.
When the Carpenter gazes at himself in the water and sees himself as an oyster,
Alice gives surreal advice to the bad seed, sitting in the English garden waiting for the sun to rise.
Actually, she is a boy — you can tell by the way she pulls down her panties (but the BBC says no).
On the horizon, a pink unidentified flying object appears, and it’s only the beginning of a journey to the thirteenth floor.
Follow the white rabbit, ask no questions, let the unity of all things flow — the dance of infinity: each of us is the wave, and also the ocean.
I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.
And our children will wander naked through the cities of the universe.
