Marea
Irene Ferrara / Compagnia Arearea
2020
Marea is impediment and liberation, it is a cry longing to surrender to an embrace.
The tide is the periodic phenomenon that causes the rise (flow) and fall (ebb) of the great bodies of water on our planet, due to the gravitational attraction of the Sun and, above all, the Moon.
Marea is a great liquid mass that fluctuates and rises, causing damage or generating feelings of danger.
Marea is woman: it is cyclical and follows its flow — the menstrual flow.
In an era when taboos are falling, the one surrounding menstruation still persists.
In the performance, three women immerse themselves in the flow of one of the most natural biological processes — the menstrual cycle — recognizing the beauty of events for what they are, without grotesque undertones. What unites them is red, the color of blood after birth, a symbol of both passion and shame.
