Following “Noi siamo il tricheco” (2020) — an “urban” work exploring the phenomenon of psychedelia in 1960s rock music — in the upcoming season Arearea Company will delve into the glam rock universe.

The new creation, conceived by Roberto Cocconi, stands as the second chapter of the Rock Revolution project, a trilogy on protest music. The overarching project aims to revisit the youth movement that, between the late 1960s and 1970s, brought about radical changes in customs — from music to cinema, fashion, social and interpersonal relations, and the dynamics between fathers and sons.

By glam — also known as glitter in the United States — we refer to a constellation of artists and bands, typically but not exclusively British, who often collaborated, shared managers, and were animated by a friendly rivalry.

Born from the colorful landscape of beards and jeans that distinguished the revolutionary yippie wave of the late 1960s, glam rock was a disruptive force among adolescents in the first half of the 1970s.
The subsequent resurgences of glam in the decades that followed have made exploring this genre a delightful surprise for all of us dancers.

We have interpreted the aesthetic principles of glam artists through a contemporary lens, bringing to the stage a heterogeneous array of characters and crafting small stories of fascinating intensity — wearing extravagant costumes for an incandescent artifice. Tableaux in which the ridiculous and the sublime merge, becoming indistinguishable, thus giving rise to actions where anyone can step beyond the ordinary and enter into direct contact with fantasies of fame and extravagance.

Amplifying the androgynous and homoerotic undercurrent always present in the pop-rock scene, we have wandered through the cosmic firmament in an attempt to generate an authentic illusion.
