What does ‘distance’ mean? What value does it acquire when accompanied by the all-too-human desire to annul it? How is personal space filled with the expressive desire to touch the other and the other’s space? What elements determine the relationship between bodies in urban space? The term proxemics refers to the study of human space and interpersonal distance in their nature as signs. Within a communication, verbal or non-verbal, it investigates the meaning assumed in human social behaviour by the distance they interpose between themselves and others. This distance, on the basis of which man regulates his interpersonal relationships, is called the Vital or Proxemic Space. Personal space is imbued with the existence of those who inhabit it and entails a relationship between what ‘exists’ and what is perceived, which ultimately depends on each person’s landscape, linked to personal imagination. The performance investigates the concepts of distance and proximity, experimenting with a new placing, repositioning, with reaching out towards the space of the other. We can generate infinite solicitations and short circuits in the relationship through senses, perception, body, form, gesture, word, gaze. We can redefine the forms of the relationship between bodies, and observe how these transform the community space.
