Ballad

Short as a long journey
Roberto Cocconi e Luca Zampar / Compagnia Arearea
2008

How many seas Corto Maltese owns? Lots of. All those geographically known. As many as his journeys.

Corto Maltese, a solitary and disillusioned adventurer, eternally traveling. With his captain uniform and his golden earring on the left lobe, he achieved a worldwide reputation. His stories recall faraway places and always different adventures. A man with a heart of gold, easygoing and friend of the humble, yet prone to the darkest cynicism; legendary all-around giant, a little sullen, ironic and gloomy, he is a fictional character who has captured the popular imagination.

The seas of Corto Maltese and his endless adventures become suggestion for a theatre journey in search of an archetype: the eternal wanderer, placed in a time that is no time.

An evocative production, made of dreams, emotions and painted pictures. Dance becomes the language translating all of this into vivid feelings, fantastic places of our mind, where our longing for travel is fully expressed.
